Author: Lauren K

Hello! I'm an M.S.Ed. candidate at the University of Pennsylvania pursuing a degree in international educational development. My interests are in multilingual education, equitable education, girls' empowerment, and teacher development. I'm in New Delhi, India this summer interning with the education team of the Aga Khan Foundation, learning about their programs in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Telengana. In my spare time I'm attempting to learn a little bit of Hindi and trying every kind of Indian food possible.

Sawaal Achchhe Hain

It feels a bit weird to be submitting this “final” blog post now. While a lot of my IEDP classmates have already finished their internships and returned home or gone back to Penn for another semester, I still have two weeks left to wrap up here in Delhi. Or maybe I should say gear up, because there’s a lot to be done before I leave … Continue reading Sawaal Achchhe Hain

Mountains and Memories

Eight weeks down, only four to go. I was sitting at my desk the other day thinking I had all the time in the world before the conclusion of this internship, only to look at my calendar and realize that time is quickly creeping up on me. I’m feeling the pressure at work to get several deliverables completed before my last day in between balancing … Continue reading Mountains and Memories

To the Field, Chalo!

Chalo! I hear this phrase thrown around almost daily in conversation here and I love it for both its simplicity as well as its flexibility in meaning. Most often it’s used to mean “let’s go,” as in “let’s go for a walk. Chalo!” You could also use it to express relief at having finally finished a task, like “chalo yeah, it’s finally done.” It slips … Continue reading To the Field, Chalo!

Coffee or Chai?

Namaste and greetings from New Delhi! It’s hard for me to believe that I’ve already been here for almost two weeks when just a month ago it seemed like I would have to make alternative plans for my internship. After multiple phone calls, several exasperated emails, anda fruitless trip to the Indian Consulate in New York City over the course of two months, I had … Continue reading Coffee or Chai?

It is of utmost importance to continue to recognize and learn from the remarkable work of BLM activists. One such incredible group is ‘Black Lives Matter at School’, which is a national coalition organizing for racial justice in education.
